Soil does not have to be a new challenge in planning: many exiting planning concepts are already dealing with soil - albeit sometimes inexplicitly. This page presents a range of planning concepts, from nature-based and ecosystem-integrated strategies to regulatory, strategic, and participatory practices, where soil can play a central role. By explicitly considering soil in these approaches, planners and designers can enhance ecosystem services, support climate resilience, improve land-use efficiency, and strengthen urban–rural relationships, while aligning with broader societal goals.

Below you can explore different planning concepts and ambitions. Are any of these high on your organisation’s agenda? Discover how soil can be integrated to strengthen your goals!
